Overview

We all know somebody who has been scammed. Join us to hear speakers Weylin Gomez and FBI PGH cover the latest in consumer fraud.

Please join us at Hackers Guild PGH for a double-header featuring Weylin Gomez and representatives from the FBI Pittsburgh Field Office:

Session Title: Good with Tech, Bad with People: Why consumers are still getting robbed

Not so many years ago, Weylin Gomez was an Apple Store technician, helping everyday people with the powerful technology that had quickly become instrumental to daily life. He learned that technical capability is important, but a human experience is what they need most often.

Weylin was an IT project manager at a HIPAA-regulated nonprofit, learning cybersecurity to add to his resume. Friends, family and coworkers started turning to him whenever a text or an email seemed sketchy. He noticed that businesses have meticulously planned security playbooks, layered defenses, and dedicated support built in. Consumers don’t.

Today, Weylin is the cofounder of Total Tech Safety, a consumer-focused cybersecurity service built around layered protection, ongoing tech training, and a team of human advisors members can call for help when they aren’t sure what to do next.
